Re-Learn how to focus.

we live in a distracted world.

notifications. emails. calls. meetings. social media. bing bing bing bing bing bing. every single second. there's always something to tend to.

our brains are constantly blown up with thousands of different stimuli that demand our attention.

the issue is that our brain is not wired to handle so much task-switching.

think about it.

this technology - near instant communication is new. it's only been around domestically since the 50's (telephones).

change across the hand of evolution is slow. we're talking millions of years. we just haven't biologically adapted yet. we're the test rabbits. and we've come to see the negative effects of the experiment first-hand.

luckily, you can claim back your biological right to function.

how? by exercising your discipline.

study / work / play with clear intent.

if you're going to eat, only eat. without a phone. without checking your email.

if you're going to code, only code. without checking your slack.

check your notifications once or twice a day. be comfortable with the silence of your own thoughts.

because every-single time you cave in, and do something other than what you intended to do, you're stealing from your future self.

you are literally rewiring the neurons in your brain to be more efficient at getting distracted. that's the opposite of what we want.

we want to be undistractable.

and we become undistractable by setting intent, and sticking to it.

thanks for coming to my TED talk.
